1. Preamble


Nycomed Pty Ltd (Nycomed) knows how much importance you attach to the protection of your privacy.  We take the task of protecting your personal information very seriously.
We collect and use personal information only to the extent permitted by relevant legal requirements, in particular the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).  Nycomed is subject to, and complies with, the National Privacy Principles.  Nycomed websites may contain links to websites not managed by us, and not subject to this Privacy Policy.

2. Collection of information

Each time you visit our website, our webservers automatically save the name of your browser and operating system, your Internet service provider, the website from which you accessed the Nycomed website, the websites you visit while with us and the date and the time you spend with us.

When you access our sites, our servers save this information for security purposes to allow us to identify you if it is necessary (e.g. IP address, date, time and pages you visit).  We may also evaluate anonymous data sets for statistical purposes.

We will collect personal information that you provide to us, for example, when registering your details with us, when making an enquiry or when applying for a job.

3. Cookies

We use cookies to allow us to identify regular visitors.  Cookies in and of themselves do not personally identify users, although they do identify a user's browser.  Most browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. However, you can turn off the ‘Save Cookies’ function or set your browser so that it informs you whenever cookies are transmitted.

4. Session IDs

We use session IDs.  Session IDs allow us to accompany and identify visitors as they browse various websites.  No personal information is collected or saved through the use of session IDs.

5. Collection and use of personal information

Personal information means information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database), whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion.  In other words, personal information is information that tells us who you are can be used to find out your identity.

Personal information can include your correct name and contact details such as residential or postal address or a telephone number.  Information which cannot be directly linked to your true identity (e.g. favourite websites or the number of users of a website), does not constitute personal information and is not regulated by the Privacy Act or this policy.

You should be aware that you may use our online services without revealing your identity.  If you register for one of our personalised services, or apply for a job, we will ask you for your name and other personal details. You are entirely free to decide whether or not to supply this information.

6. Definition of purpose

We will only use personal information supplied by you to prepare products or services requested by yourself, for other purposes for which we have your agreement or if we are required or authorised by law.
Our staff and service providers are subject to an obligation of confidentiality.  We do not make data available to third parties, other than third party service providers.

7. Registering experts

If you register under “Login for Experts”, the information collected will be used to provide the services that you request.  Information will be evaluated by Nycomed on an anonymous basis in order to identify patterns of user behaviour, optimise our services and to compile statistics.

8. Career

If you use our career page to make an unsolicited job application, or to respond to a job advertisement, your personal information may be viewed by the personnel managers in charge of filling the vacancy/vacancies and by personnel assistants. Your personal information will be used to process your job application. Your personal information will also be saved for future vacancies, if you register your interest in the candidate pool.

9. Security

We use technical measures to ensure the security of all archived data.  The security of our systems is regularly reviewed to ensure ongoing protection against damage, loss and/or unauthorised access.  Our security precautions are regularly updated and improved in line with technical developments.  Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot give absolute assurance that the information you provide to us will be secure at all times. Nycomed will not be held responsible for unauthorised access to personal information where it has taken reasonable steps to protect and secure the information.

Please note that Nycomed may use overseas facilities to process or back up its information.  If you provide any personal information to us, you also consent to the transfer by us of your information to our overseas facilities for storage.  However, this does not change any of our commitments to safeguard your privacy.

10. Access and Correction rights

You are entitled to request access to your personal information held by Nycomed and to correct the personal information if you believe it to be out of date or incorrect.  Simply send an e-mail to the address quoted below and we will amend the record of your personal information.

If you wish to have your personal information deleted, please let us know and we will take all reasonable steps to delete it, unless we need to keep it for legal reasons.

11. Links to other Websites

We would like to point out that operators of websites which are accessed via links from our website may gather and store personal information as soon as you access their websites.  We cannot accept any liability for those operators in the event of your personal information being collected, used, disclosed and shared by them.

12. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify/correct this Privacy Policy at any time. Visitors to our website are responsible for consulting this page on a regular basis to inform themselves of any amendments that may have been made.  The amended Privacy Policy will apply between us whether or not we have given you specific notice of any change.

Nycomed Pty Ltd (Nycomed) is committed to safe-guarding your privacy and to protecting your personal information. 

Nycomed is subject to, and seeks to comply with, the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and that National Privacy Principles set out in that Act.

The personal information that we collect

Nycomed collects and stores personal information about its customers, medical and allied health professionals and members of the public.  The personal information that we collect is primarily related to our products and services.

Personal information may be collected via this website or via telephone enquiries and adverse reaction reports.  For details about the collection of personal information via this website, including information collected in connection with an employment related enquiry, please refer to our internet privacy policy.

Personal information collected in the context of a telephone enquiry or an adverse reaction report may include:
  • the caller's name and contact details;
  • the nature of person's enquiry or adverse reaction report; and
  • details about the caller including age, gender, medical condition/ medical treatment and any prescription or over-the-counter medications (or in the case of a enquiry/ report made by a medical or allied health professional, those same details concerning a de-identified patient).

This information may be collected by Nycomed as a recorded voice message where our staff are temporarily unavailable to answer a call and the caller chooses to leave a voice message.

How will the information be used or disclosed?

A summary of customer enquiries and adverse reaction reports will be recorded in our database.  This information will be used by Nycomed to monitor, assess and improve products and services. 

De-identified information will be used to meet our reporting obligations under the Therapeutic Goods Act.  Details of adverse reactions will be reported to the Therapeutic Goods Administration in de-identified form.

De-identified information will also be used to satisfy Nycomed's corporate reporting obligations in respect of drug safety and product quality standards.  Relevant de-identified information will be sent to our offices in Germany and Denmark.
